Manned, autonomous, or optionally piloted?

When you open a company page on Air Taxi Spot, you may see a chip that says manned, autonomous, or optionally piloted. Those three words are how this directory groups who is supposed to be in the aircraft at entry into service. They are browse tags. They are not a ticket, a pilot license, or a finding that a flight is ready to book.

What the three labels mean here

  • Manned — the catalog treats the program as designed for an onboard pilot at entry into service. Most passenger air-taxi entries in this list use this tag.
  • Autonomous — designed for no onboard pilot. Ground supervision can still apply. The chip does not say the aircraft is flying passengers today, and it does not replace a certification label.
  • Optionally piloted — piloted at launch, with a stated path toward autonomy later. In this catalog that chip is used when the company itself describes that sequence.

Autonomy is separate from mission. A cargo program can be autonomous. A passenger air-taxi program can be manned. The same company page can also carry a region chip and, when sourced, a certification-stage phrase. Passenger or cargo? · How to read certification stage labels.

Companies tagged manned

These companies carry the manned chip. Status next to the name (Active, Paused, and the other status pills) is a different catalog field. How to read directory status labels.

Companies tagged autonomous

These companies match the autonomous browse category. Some are passenger air taxi; some are cargo. The sentence after the name is the catalog tagline. It is not a range claim, a seat count, or a route.

Also tagged passenger air taxi: AutoFlight, EHang, Kitty Hawk (Cora lineage), Wisk Aero.

Cargo without the passenger air taxi label: Dufour Aerospace, Elroy Air, Sabrewing Aircraft.

Optionally piloted

Only one company in the current catalog carries this chip: Eve Air Mobility. The category page stays the live list if that changes.

What these labels do not say

  • None of these chips means a ride is on sale, that a pilot is already hired, or that a remote operator is approved.
  • They do not stand in for certification wording. If a company page shows a Certification line, that line is a sourced directory label. Read the quoted phrase, then the official site linked on the page.
  • They do not set a price, a range, a seat count, or a city pair. This page does not invent those figures.
  • They are not a ranking. Seeing more manned companies than autonomous ones here only reflects how the catalog is tagged today.
